Description

On this tour you will visit the remnants of Aptera, an ancient Greek city which was built in the 8th century BC. and continued to develop during the Roman and Byzantine period.

Follow your guide as they recreate the hustle and bustle of this once-busy town, explaining what each building was used for, where people lived, socialized, and had fun and how the town developed throughout the years.

What could not be missing from a strong town, like Aptera, is a theater with a lovely view of the surrounding landscape. During the Roman times new residences, baths and impressive aqueducts were built whose remains are preserved near the theater and a Byzantine monastery, built at the same place the ancient agora once was.

Your tour doesn’t end here. You will continue to the Turkish Koule fortress, which was built using material from the ancient city. You will see all these monuments from different periods in the very same place and enjoy the panoramic view the hill offers.

This tour is available in: English, Greek, French, Italian.
